Abel Ramos gets off the canvas; decisions Francisco in action packed fight
Abel Ramos and Francisco Santana came out with clearly different strategies.
In round one, the harder-punching Ramos came out looking to box, jabbing and moving around the ring. Santana, while not considered a big puncher, was in seek-and-destroy mode. Both men landed some hard, thudding punches to the head and body.
Round two saw the momentum shift as Santana was able to capitalize on his opponent. With about forty five seconds left in the round, Ramos went down from a hard left hook.
Rounds three and four continued to be a high pace fight with both men starting to fight toe-to-toe more. Ramos did have success landing hard shots in the middle of the ring.
Round seven was huge for Ramos who badly hurt Santana with a beautiful, powerful right uppercut. Santana, to his credit, would survive that onslaught. The rest of the fight saw Ramos successfully outbox his opponent which would serve to be pivotal given the knockdown.
At the end of the night, the judges would declare the Arizona native the winner by unanimous decision.
The scores would read as 95-94, 97-92 and 98-92. He improves his record to 24-3 with 18 knockouts.
